Various Blog Thoughts

Just a few quick comments I figured I’d put here.

First at the SMPT conference a few asked how the blog was going. And I know Blake seemed concerned it wasn’t going that great. I’m not sure that’s right.

I’m getting about 30 regular (i.e. unique IP within 24 hours) visitors per day. No where near where I was at the old blog when it was active. However I’d estimate based upon my tracking at the old blog that at least 2/3rds of my regular readers were non-Mormon. As you may have noted I’ve not really done any general philosophy posts. Nor have I really made yet an active appearance in the various philosophy blogs so as to drive traffic. I also haven’t submitted any posts to the various Carnivals or so forth.

So it’s really not surprising I don’t have that much traffic yet.

With respect to more general visits (which may include folks who block cookies or javascript or who have a changing IP address) I’m averaging about 150. Which is less than half what the old blog used to get. Once again though I’ve not build up a Google page rank yet nor do I have a lot of posts that might be relevant to what people are looking for. So once again that’s not too surprising.

Second, it’s that period after winter semester but before fall semester. It’s my experience that in these summer and late spring months most academic oriented blogs have slower traffic. Things always pick up again in September.

Third, even among LDS blogs I’ve not really pushed the blog yet. Partially that’s because I’m still refining my blog setup. Partially it’s just the nature of the kind of posts I’ve been making. As I have a bit more time I’ll start doing more by way of academic styled posting.

There’s lot to comment on. But I still want to get things tweaked a little bit.

I should note that if any of you have suggestions on topics to discuss feel free to let me know. I’m trying to decide if I should hit the free will debate again or not.
