Dreyfus Classes

Enowning was looking for the latest Herbert Dreyfus Heidegger classes. He found some torrents as well as a webcast. However I suspect many would like them to be downloaded automatically by iTunes as MP3s as soon as new classes are taught.

Here’s the instructions

First go to the Berkeley iTunes U page. That’ll open up iTunes and the list of categories for Berkeley. Go to Arts and Humanities Courses and it’ll show the following classes.

Philosophy 185 (Dec 6, 2007) Heidegger
Philosophy 189 (May 13, 2008) Heidegger’s Being and Time Division II
Philosophy 7 (May 6, 2008) Existentialism in Literature and Film
Phil 6: Man, God and Society

There’s also an other that looks interesting although not by Dreyfus.

English 117S: Shakespeare

If you haven’t listened to past years of Dreyfus’ course then it’s well worth putting in your iPod. I listened to it two years in a row plus his film class. They were pretty good although I already took a fairly pragmatic oriented reading of Heidegger. So Dreyfus was speaking to how I tended to look at the issues already. They are great for the gym though.

The Berkeley webcast site also provides access and subscription to podcasts by semester.

I downloaded the series and attempted to listen to them using my Mac. It is extremely difficult because of the extraneous noise associated with the recording. I’m assuming this is not that much of a problem with the iPod.

Rich

I’ve not listened to the 2008 ones. The 2005 ones I listened to a few years back had some noise but were overall pretty good. I listened to about half of one of the 2006 ones and it had a bit more noise due to a cheap digital ‘tape’ recorder being used.

Bryan, I didn’t know the webcast site also had iTunes links. My bad. That kind of makes this post largely redundant.

I’ll leave it up though since my post from a few years back about Dreyfus Mp-3s still gets hits fairly regularly.

Rich, the iTunes version has a note that the first class had some audio difficulties so it is distorted. This only is with the first class and not the subsequent ones though. (Reportedly – I’m still downloading)

Links do not seem to work. Anyone has the idea where to download now?

I’m sure they change the links every year. Go to iTunes U, look up Berkley and find the classes there.
