SR & the Block Universe

There were two posts on relativity and the block universe in this week’s carnival. “How SR Thwarts Eternalism” at Soul Physics and “Relativity and the Present” at The Real World. Both tend to go against the view that relativity entails a block universe. For probably the strongest counterview see Peterson and Silberstein in “Relativity of Simultaneity and Eternalism: In Defense of Blockworld” up at the phil sci repository. The other source is Sklar’s seminal Space, Time, and Spacetime. There’s also a Thesis from Oxford by Ian Gibson on the issue I’ve not yet read. I’ll probably have more to say on this later as this clearly impacts the free will debate.
