Overplaying the AIDS Genes

Razib on the media overplaying the AIDS gene. Is it just me or is the media completely unable to deal with science reporting? (In general that is. Some outlets like NPR do quite well) Also see his post on evolution and African AIDS.

It’s not just you.

What always gets me is the occasional hype over a new study announcing provocative results or findings with zero follow-up and little digging into possible agendas that may be at play.

There have been so many studies that have entered the public conciousness as stone cold facts but the reality is they were never verified or even disproven. But it’s too late to correct the public’s mass perception.
