Party Line Continentals
Leiter and Party Line Continentals. Extremely thoughtful consideration of analytic appropriation of continental thought and the old Continental/Analytic divide. Well worth reading. I really like his change of terms to ‘open problematics’ vs. ‘situated problematics.’

Liberty vs. Equality
This fall has been even more ridiculous than my already insanely busy summer. So I’ve not been able to write much. However Bill Vallicella has up two posts that caught my attention. They are on Liberty vs. Equality. (Part 1 and Part 2) As regular readers know I’ve not done much in philosophical ethics – [...]

MicroMormon vs. Macro. Economics and Mormonism.
Evolution and Global Warming
Razib over at Gene Expression put up a great post on the correlation between doubters of evolution and doubters or global warming. I’d wanted to post on it but I’ve been out of town on work for some time. Surprisingly (at least to me) there really isn’t much of a relation. Yes, as expected, evolution [...]
The Economic Argument
The economic argument against pseudoscience. Tell me xkcd isn’t the greatest thing on the internet…
Reversing Memory Loss
Reversing memory loss. Only in mice which doesn’t always translate to humans to say the least. But it’s a pretty exciting breakthrough nonetheless.
Neglected Comte
The neglected Comte. Sounds like a way for someone to make their name.
Caputo Lectures
There are a bunch of MP3s of Caputo’s lectures on Derrida, Malabou and Meillassoux up. (HT: Speculative Heresy) I’ve not listened to them yet but they look interesting. Also out is a podcast of a panel with various folks on OOP including Levi Bryant.
Best Introduction to Derrida?
The blog Deconstruction, Inc. had up an interesting question about what the best introduction to Derrida would be. For pure Derridean texts I have to agree that some of the interviews are a good place to start since Derrida is far less “demonstrative” in those texts. Derrida speaking clearly is often better to get started [...]
Pew on Marriage
Interesting new study from Pew Research on marriage. The “gap” in marriage between the educated and non-educated has basically disappeared (and may be going slightly in the opposite direction) The number of people getting married before 30 has definitely decreased significantly though. I wonder how much of that is due to the recession. Those married [...]
Two Books on Magic
Magic in the pre-modern world. Really interesting book reviews. One argues that “magic” is the foil scholars used to define modernity. The other argues that magic is a polemic term for the religion of “the other guy.” Fascinating and both probably illustrate why it’s a dangerous term within careful scholarship.
Peirce and Inference to Best Explanation
Yes, I’m still too busy to finish my Peirce and OOO discussion. Profuse apologies as I know it’s been over a month now. I did pick up Graham’s Guerrilla Metaphysics as I’m pretty convinced that’s necessary for some subtle points. We’ll see I guess. I am going off to the mountains to the north of [...]
