The approach up this valley is fairly sustained. It inovolves a ~7km ski or snow shoe up a usually unbroken trail. Because of this, consider the area more for a back country ski trip rather than an ice climb. There are a couple of avalanche gullies that must be crossed on the approach. The first time I came up here to have a look at the falls below Carthew, the wind was so strong I couldn't stand up on the final approach, even wearing crampons. The climbs hear are about 1 pitch. Two climbs to the left of the lake have been done. I believe that a few longer routes similar to Midnight Express may form up at the back right of the lake.
