UPPER RUN
Red Rock to Ruby Creek Take Out

Low: N/A
Med: II
High: II+

When flowing during it's short season, this run is a scenic flush. Difficulty is determined more by how much the river is flushing, rather than by defined rapids. At low flows, you will wear out the bottom of your boat. At high flows you will get a fun 9km ride through small, but continuous haystacks. There is only one distinct rapid, "the play spot", pictured above. There is one log jam that has been partially broken about 300 before the play spot. It is along a hidden left turn at the start of a gravelled delta. When you come out of the woods for the first time and see a large plane, hop out and check around the corner. It is hard to eddy out directly above the wood.

While it is possible to take out slightly above Ruby Creek, finding the take ou,t unless you have already flagged it, is fairly difficult. Most people prefer to continue down to Crandell Lake Campground, passing through the Church Camp rapids. This only adds an extra half hour, although it does make for a noticeable increase in difficulty.
