Lynx Creek
Lynx creek underwent significant changes over the last few years. This has been the result of a couple of large fires. Significant number of logs abound. Attempts to cut them out seem to get foiled as more and more pour down the hillsides.
The run contains 3 significant drops. There aren't too many distinct rapids outside of this. It definitely has a creeky feel to it though. However the amount of time one has to spend looking out for trees means that high water runs that would normally be ideal are probably not the best idea.
Except for Lynx Falls, drops are marred by a dangerous abundance of wood surrounding the pools. A good roll is mandatory. Consider setting up extra safety just in case someone gets swept to the exanse of floating debris.
Locals access the run by a dirt road that leads out of Blairmore. Most people will get here on the Lynx-Carbondale road that heads west by the Castle River bridge near the rodeo grounds (site of the May long weekend River Rendezvous). Drive along this road for about 20 minutes until it intersects a road to Hillcrest at a corner. Heading up the hill takes one to back to the Crowsnest Pass. The Lynx creek road heads north just infront of a bridge located at Lynx Creek Campground.
The put in lies about 3km up this road. There is a smalll pullout on the left next to a large boulder. The creek is about 10m through the trees. The pullout is located near the bottom of a gentle slope. Take out at the bridge by the campground. Many people choose to carry out at Lynx creek falls.
