GARGOYLE RIDGE
Introduction
Gargoyle Ridge is found in the prominent drainage allow the scramble to Mt.
Tecumseh. The climbs are located along the left hand side of a remarkable gully.
The setting is quite pleasant, and acres of new routes are found deeper up the
canyon. The rock is quite solid. All routes have been put up by the active Medicine
Hat climbing club. Several works in progress are found by the established routes.
Please be respectful of their efforts.

Getting There
Drive west of the town of Coleman. As you approach Crowsnest lake, the Alberta
Tourist information center is located on the left (south) side of highway 3.
Instead of turning into the information center, turn right on 26th street. This
heads to a small collection of old homes. Park here and walk to the railroad
tracks. Follow the tracks west for about 300m. As you get to Crowsnest lake,
head up an open hillside on your right to get to the telephone lines and the
Sentinel Pass road. (This road cuts in front of the newer grey house on the
hill, but is singed no trespassing. Once on the road, follow it up to the pass
in 20 to 30 minutes. At the top of the pass a narrow gully heads up Mt. Tecumseh
on the right (north). It takes off directly in front of a large power relay
tower. Scramble up the creek bed (fun), or head up a game trail on the right
side of the ridge. In about 300m you will come to the first of a set of cliff
bands on the left (west) side of the gully. The climbs lie here. This is just
uphill from a prominent slab visible from the road.
