HOUSE ROCK (FRANK BOULDER)
Introduction
Most people introduction to climbing in the Pass revolves around the large boulder in the center of Frank's Slide. This 30 cube of limestone has several routes on it. The boulder is well enough removed from the highway to limit the noise from all but the biggest trucks. The ground around the base is sandy and even. The shade of a few nearby trees makes the area quite pleasant even on warm summer days. The ease of top roping and lack of loose rock make it an excellent place for beginning climbers.
Getting There
The climbing is concentrated on the west side of the boulder. Most of the routes are broken up by small ledges. This distracts from the climbing and can provide an ankle shattering experience if one is not careful. Top rope anchors abound. While many of the bolts had been removed by drunk locals, over the last year or so, they have slowly been replaced. You can scramble to the top of the boulder on the north east side.

Due to some recent comments on live-the vision, I have decided to take down any arbitrary names that were given to routes. These names were originally given for a few reasons. After 9 years trying to find out who did what, I figured little new information would come out (FA's either not being interested in having the area published, or having moved away, died, or become removed from the climbing scene). Once conclusive information can be obtained, route names will again be posted. If any one knows specifics, please email me at cgoble @ allstream.net (no spaces).
