America Divided
November 5, 2004

I normally make it a policy not to post about politics here. I was truly burnt out on politics by the time the election rolled around and was very glad for an end. However it seems that the election results haven't ended the division. There is still sniping everywhere. Lots of ad homen attacks on all sides along with nearly ever fallacy taught in introductory logic classes. The worst of all are claims that America is so divided. It is just not true on so many levels. Further it seems something some want to be true. In the interests of unification allow me to post the graphic from Robert J. Vanderbei's site. Rather than merely plotting blue and red counties, it plots it based upon the percent vote each party got, ranging in spectrum from blue to red. What we find is a rather large purple map. (Admittedly I'm in one of the pure red counties - but even here I think the differences are vastly overplayed) And with that I'll bow out of politics and get back to metaphysics.

Over at Times and Seasons they have a thread on "where the Mormons are" which is rather interesting to overlay over the above map. Too bad that Mormon map doesn't do what the "purple" map does and illustrate where we are second, third or fourth. After all that would probably highlight a lot of California where there have always been numerous Mormons. (And let's not forget southern Alberta)
