Mormon Metaphysics & Theology

Believing Minds
January 21, 2005

Someone brought up to me a KBYU radio series interviewing various figures on religious and philosophical topics. The show is Believing Minds. The topics range from LDS philosopher David Paulsen on open theology to famous Heidegger scholar Hebert Dreyfus on the Internet. I'm busy downloading them and suspect several of you might find them interesting. More iPod listening while walking my dog.

I should add these are all MP3s and not streaming audio. Very nice. Many thanks to whomever put the show together.

I probably should link to a few other interesting resources. KUER's Radio West always has some interesting shows. They are in streaming media, so you need a capture program to save it to disk for iPod listening. They are primarily more about LDS political or social issues rather than philosophical or theological ones. But some might find them interesting.

Bridging the Religious Divide. A discussion over Rocky Anderson's attempts to bring Mormons and non-Mormons into a dialog within SLC where there often are large divides.

Black and Mormon addresses the struggles of saints of African descent and some of their struggles in the church. Both Dave's blog and Mormon Wasp have discussed the book in question a fair bit.

Faithful Transgressions. I didn't hear this one, but I believe it is based on some autobiographies of women who came into conflict with the church.

How Apologetics is Reshaping Mormon Orthodoxy. I think I'd linked to this one before. It was a rebroadcast of an earlier show more or less based on the Sunstone article from September (no longer available online) It's basically a discussion of apologetic organizations like FAIR or FARMS and the relation to LDS theology.

They used to have up a larger selection of archives, but it looks like they've switched to just keeping a month's worth.

I've gotten a few emails from people who've come to these pages looking for the Dreyfus lectures. He gave permission for me to put them up here.
