Way back in the late 90's I used to write about my adventures so that my relatives could read them. I'd stored these things, along with various other documents on CD and on a hard drive. Well I had a hard drive crash and lost them right around the same time I moved and...lost the CDs. I was quite upset until I found the Way Back Machine. This is a project to record the internet so that years from now old web sites can be found. Most of my stuff was there! (Sadly few of the graphics were - but some of those I can recreate) I've cleaned up the HTML a bit and put them up so that all can read my adventuresome life from '98 to '99.
Anyway, for those few interested in my personal "journals" from those days, here they are.
Old Journals
Nicole gently hinted that if I were going to be spending this time with my "mistress the computer" I really ought to be writing about my family and not philosophy. So, to beg her forgiveness I'll write of a few funny incidents that have happened that I'd not recorded.
I don't think I've told everyone about the adventures on our honeymoon. Weddings are always a little stressful and I think they often are more than a little overly drawn out. I actually tried to convince Nicole to take a page out of an Elvis movie and elope to Las Vegas. She, having a classic romantic view of weddings and not the "fun, games, and irony" view of romance, didn't really agree. We wisely avoided the traditional line, however. I've never quite figured out why this tradition remains. You end up standing up forever meeting people you barely know (or have never met) all to be polite and get presents. Truth be told I don't think it is worth it for the presents. Further I find such matters an edurance of boredom when I have to attend. (And that is after making a quick getaway as soon as possible. Were I to be in one it would surely be the death of me. If I couldn't convince Nicole to elope, I could at least convince her to skip the procession line.
We came up with the idea of holding the reception in the backyard of a relative's friend. It was way up towards the mountains and had a nice treed backyard. (Necessary in the heat of a Utah summer)
It worked perfectly. We mingled, wandered and all those weird expectations that receptions always seem to bring out were avoided. It ended up being a enjoyable relaxing evening.
Before I get to what happened next, I should step back a few hours to the photo taking. Now those who know me know I hate being photographed at the best of times. Since I've not quite been as "active" as I normally am, I don't even look as good as I hoped to. So people taking photos of me is, to me, considerably less enjoyable than a trip to the dentist. Still, I knew how much they matter to Nicole and so I went through with it all. (Although I've done my best to avoid having to look at them - the ones on this web site are done out of love for my baby)
Knowing how stressful things can be after the wedding, we decided to have the photos taken prior to the ceremony. Unfortunately this meant that we got to have the full heat of the sun during a record heat wave here in Utah. (Hardly the coolest of places at the best of times to this Canadian boy) Dressed in a black tuxedo, the experience wasn't my best and after an hour I had a mild case of heat stroke.
This left me dazed and dizzy through the reception and I recall little of it. I think that was how we managed to leave the suitcase for our honeymoon at the temple. That evening, as we reached the bed and breakfast in we were staying at I discovered that all our clothing was missing. So there I was in a tuxedo and Nicole in her gown. Then I found that my credit cards had all been canceled!
As best as I could figure out, I'd raised flags as a "suspicious person" by buying gas in many places that day along with visits to Victoria's Secret - a place I'd never shopped at before! I had remembered to bring checks and some extra credit cards, of course. Except that they were in luggage. And who knows where that was.
About this time Nicole let me know that she had an awful toothache and could I rush to the store to get some pain relievers. Of course this was made difficult by the fact I had little by way of money.
I finally got the credit card fixed. (They canceled it again the next day) Her tooth her quite bad, but it still was a beautiful romantic evening with a beautiful bride. Of course the following week she had to have a root canal done. The week after than she had her wisdom teeth taken out.
Nicole was quite distressed that I had been working on my Philosophy pages but had not put up our wedding pictures. She hinted in rather "strong" terms that perhaps I ought to. So here they are. And baby? This is why I didn't come to bed immediately last night!
I'll admit my biases up front. I don't like pictures of me. So these are mainly of Nicole. I'll put more up tomorrow.
I turned 36 this week. Oddly it doesn't bother me too much. The big one was 29 and then 31. But now I think I'm finally used to being "old." It still seems amazing to me that I'm not in college. I still think of myself as being in my early 20's. But I think that is finally wearing off. Undoubtedly that is, at least in part, due to getting married.
Speaking of getting married I've been promising to put up wedding pictures for some time. I hope to have those up Sunday, as Monday is our four month anniversary. I must stop procrastinating and get them up. I have to admit though that half the problem is that I've rather fallen out of shape this year and I don't exactly like looking at pictures of myself and what I've become. Undoubtedly putting the pictures up will be the encouragement I need to get off my butt and get back to working out two hours a day.
WELCOME TO THE BEGINNING of my home site. Right now it is very simple until I can find some of my old web pages and photos.
In the meantime I'm including some pictures of my new puppy, Einstein. He is an Australian Shepherd we got a couple of weeks after getting married. To be honest, had we known how much work a puppy was going to be, we'd probably have held off. But we love him despite all the times cleaning up the carpet or having to train him not to nip or jump.

I thought that perhaps I ought also show some photos of my wife since many of my friends living out of state have yet to meet her. Her name is Nicole Green (now Goble) and she's from Wyoming.

Ignore the photo of me. Unfortunately I've managed to put on a considerable amount of weight the past six months and gotten correspondingly out of shape. But I'm hitting the gym for one or two hours a day and am tyring to get back into climbing with Nicole. So hopefully I'll be back to my normal self before skiing and ice climbing seases begin.
