Thoughts on New iPhones
Despite the fact it’s nearly 6 months before the new iPhones will be out there are a ton of posts out there talking about what Apple will (or should) add to the iPhone. My own view is that the iPhone has become mature (unlike the iPad which is where the iPhone was a few years [...]
AT&T Allowing Unlimited Plans Again?
Is AT&T Allowing Unlimited Plans Again? I lost my unlimited plan when I had to turn tethering on one fateful day last summer due to a trade show where I had to run credit cards. It’d be nice to switch back although honestly I don’t come close to using my existing bandwidth.
Take Picture via Mail Message
Automator: Take a Picture Via an Email Message. Nice to check on the kids. Although the countdown for Automator’s “take photo” action is loud. I’d put a volume mute action in prior to taking the picture.
Why a “Retina” Display Might Not Come to iPad Until Next Year
Why a “retina” display might not come to iPad until next year. I have to admit that for my use I don’t see the huge value of an iPad. However a retinal display would change things a lot. But right now I prefer watching movies and reading Kindle on my MacBookPro.
Cook as Ballmer
Gruber has a great post on Cook as Ballmer. The warnings signs with Ballmer have been there for years. He’s been out of touch for a long time. Remember when he laughed at the iPhone? Said it had “no chance”? Let’s not worry about Tim Cook until he starts saying dumb things. I largely agree [...]
Your iPad Is an Arcade Cabinet: The Journey From Joke to Product
Your iPad is an arcade cabinet. I’m actually surprised there aren’t more bluetooth videogame controllers now that both the iPhone and iPad support bluetooth keyboards. There are a lot of games that cry out for a physical controller. Here’s hoping that at a minimum the jailbreak emulators start supporting these things.
The iPhone Back-And-Forth Problem
The iPhone back-and-forth problem. Great criticism of iOS I’d not considered but was nodding my head as soon as I read it. This is something Apple could establish with leadership in their own apps.

Why Eric Schmidt Had to Go: Google’s Dilemma
There’s an interesting post up at Asymco: Why Eric Schmidt had to go. Apple grew at 2.5x the rate of Google. An other interesting bit of news at Engadget: Android contains directly copied Java code strengthening Oracle’s case against Google. Android’s “freeness” might be in jeopardy between this and the patent lawsuits. It’ll be interesting [...]
NetNewsWire to MarsEdit
I’m too lazy to see if I’d put a previous version of this up here or not. This is a nice little Python script I use regularly to take the current rss feed I’m reading in NetNewsWire an create a post in MarsEdit. Nice for sidebar entries at my various blogs. Just drop this one [...]
Schmidt Out at Google
What does it mean that Schmidt is out at Google? Like Gruber I think the originators of Google have pushed Schmidt completely out. But what prompted it? Well what are the big innovations of Schmidt of late? Google TV (a flop), putting Flash inside Chrome, and getting rid of H.264 in preference to WebM which [...]
Facebook is AOL
Facebook is AOL. For the record I don’t have a Facebook account.
Thoughts on Google Apps
I’d mentioned a few weeks back about my switching much of my mail over to Google Mail. The reasons were two fold. Firstly my server somehow got put on a spam blacklist and I couldn’t get it off. Needless to say this led to a lot of lost mail. The second reason was to have [...]
Against Applescript
Critiquing Applescript. Great analysis of the major flaws of the language by John Gruber going way back to 2005.
