Gmail finally has a real API. Their old IMAP “API” sucked. Here’s hoping a new version of Mail for Yosemite uses this new API and Mail improves its connection to Gmail. (Although I’ve noticed Apple’s fixed most of my Gmail problems finally – I’m not even getting delayed messages anymore)

Delays can still occur if Apple Mail is busy updating a Gmail account with many mails but it is much less noticeable than in the past if you do not expect Apple Mail to always be in sync with Gmail’s web GUI within 1-2 minutes.
One issue is remaining though: Drafts. You cannot reliably sync drafts between Apple Mail and Gmail, sooner or later, your drafts will get multiplied or sent drafts will still appear.
Apple Mail using the new Gmail API would of course be great. I also hope that tools like CloudPull are going to use the new Gmail API.
