I finally gave up in frustration and uninstalled all the MacPorts versions of Python. There was just too much confusion between the Apple and MacPorts versions. A few people had told me in the past that they reached the point where MacPort was more trouble than it was worth. I may still use it to play around with Python 3.1 at times. But beyond that it was just causing headaches with shell scripts where some modules were installed with Apple and some with MacPorts and I could never be 100% sure where easy_install had put them. C’est la vie.
Now I just take the installers and run on Apple’s version.
Edit: Harder than I thought. Lots of MacPorts stuff depends upon Python but they want their Python and not Apple’s. Ugh.
